Woodstock Promoter, Michael Lang Plans Summer Music Festival at Saugerties Farm
The Ulster County resident who staged the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969 and the property where he held a 25th anniversary concert are both linked to a music festival planned for the summer.
Michael Lang, a Town of Woodstock resident who, along with partners, staged the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in August 1969, is working with the owners of the Winston Farm in Saugerties in relation to a music festival set for the property.
The Winston Farm, owned by the Schaller Family, was the site for a 25th anniversary Woodstock concert in August 1994 that featured Bob Dylan, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith and others. The Woodstock concert in 1969 featured performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who, among others, and attracted hundreds of thousands to Sullivan County.
Promoter MCP Presents on Friday received approval from the state and Ulster County to begin promoting the upcoming Winston Farm festival and selling tickets for the event, said Saugerties Town Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel. MCP Presents must still obtain a mass gathering permit from the Town of Saugerties for the event, called the Hudson Music and Arts Festival, Helsmoortel said.
Ulster County Legislator Chris Allen, D-Saugerties, said the bands My Morning Jacket and Bassnectar are among the acts expected for the festival, which will span multiple days and offer camping. Helsmoortel said 20,000 people are expected to attend.
A yoga festival expected to draw 5,000 people is also planned for the property, Helsmoortel said.
